What We Do
Perimenopause and menopause can affect sleep, mood, periods, skin, sex, bladder, bones and more. At Hoban Health, we offer:
-
Full menopause assessment – symptoms, medical history, blood pressure, and (if clinically indicated) blood tests.
-
Hormone therapy (HRT) options – oestrogen, progestogen, and testosterone (if appropriate), plus vaginal oestrogen for local symptoms.
-
Non-hormonal options – including licensed non-hormonal medicines and lifestyle strategies.
-
Follow-up care – dosage adjustments, side-effect management, and annual reviews.
-
Bone health & heart risk support – prevention guidance and referrals if needed.
Not everyone needs HRT—your clinician will help you weigh benefits and risks to decide what’s right for you.
Who Is This Service For?
-
Anyone experiencing perimenopause (typically 40s, but can be earlier) or menopause (periods stopped for 12 months).

People with complex histories (e.g., migraine, high blood pressure, previous clots, breast cancer risk) who want individualised advice.
-
Those seeking to start, switch, or review HRT, or explore non-hormonal options.
Private appointments are available. If you have health insurance, check your plan for any eligible reimbursement.

Possible Side Effects & Safety
All treatments have potential side effects and risks. With HRT these may include breast tenderness, nausea, bleeding changes, or headaches, most of which settle as your body adjusts. Your clinician will discuss absolute/relative contraindications, breast and clot risk, patch/gel vs tablet options, and the lowest-effective-dose approach.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need tests before starting HRT?
Not always. Diagnosis of perimenopause/menopause is usually clinical. Tests are considered if you’re younger, periods are irregular for other reasons, or to check safety.
Is HRT suitable for everyone?
No. Some conditions need caution or alternatives. We’ll review your history to find the safest option.
What forms of HRT are available?
Patches, gels, sprays, tablets, vaginal oestrogen, and (for selected patients) testosterone. We’ll match the form to your symptoms and preferences.
How soon will I feel better?
Many notice improvement within weeks, but it can take up to 3 months and a dose review to optimise therapy.
Can I try non-hormonal options?
Yes—there are licensed non-hormonal medicines for hot flushes and other symptoms, plus lifestyle strategies.
How often are reviews?
Usually at 6–12 weeks after starting or changing treatment, then annually (or sooner if needed).
What if I’ve had breast cancer or a clot?
You’ll need personalised advice and, in some cases, specialist input. We’ll discuss safe alternatives and coordinate care.
